Shakespeare's Life
Contrary to popular assumptions, we know a fair number of external facts
about Shakespeare's life. We know enough to be sure that the theories that
Bacon or Marlowe or someone else wrote the plays are false. William
Shakespeare of Stratford-on-Avon certainly wrote most of the plays attributed
to him. We do not know intimate personal details of Shakespeare's private
life, but we know more about him than we know about most Elizabethan literary
