Appalachian State University issued the following press release:

After Dana Greene attended a conference in New Orleans in March, she new she had to return to the area now known as much for its devastation from Hurricane Katrina as it is for its jazz, chicory coffee and beignets.

Greene, an assistant professor in Appalachian State University's Department of Sociology and Social Work, broke away from the annual meeting of the Southern Sociological Society to visit Ninth Ward, the section of New Orleans hardest hit by the storm.
