The mother of Saint Augustine, one of the Christian fathers of faith, was an Amazigh woman. Augustine, bishop of Hippo, was born and died in what is now Algeria. His mother, Saint Monica, was a devout Christian married to a wealthy Roman landowner. She is believed to be the inspiration behind Augustine's spiritual quest.
