EDDI Reader walked straight to the microphone and sang a few bars of My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose in high operatic style. Then she stopped. "Only kiddin'," she grinned. Burns has been done that way too often. Not tonight.

Reader rediscovered Burns when she was asked to sing at last year's Alloway Festival. Soon she was hooked. Now her aim is to reintroduce the rest of us to the power of Burns the songwriter, so often lost somewhere between the White Heather Club and a drunken chorus at Hogmanay.
