WHEN Robert Burns's illegitimate first son was born, the Bard could scarcely conceal his joy. Gushing with pride, he put pen to paper, expressing in verse his hopes that Robert Junior would 'emulate his sire'.

New research has revealed that young Robert 'Bobby' Burns did just that - by siring even more illegitimate children than his errant father.

One of Scotland's foremost Burns experts have uncovered evidence that Bobby, the 'black sheep of the family', was father to at least 11 children out of wedlock.
