Mantle, Robert Burns
(1873–1948), American dramatic critic, who in 1898 became dramatic editor of the Denver Times . Later he worked as Sunday editor of the Chicago Tribune , and from 1922 until his retirement in 1943 he was dramatic critic of the New York Daily News . He edited till his death a series of play anthologies which began in 1920 with The Best Plays of 1919–1920; each volume contains extracts from 10 of the season's productions, together with an annotated index of every play produced in New York and at leading regional theatres during the year.
