An elderly couple died late Friday night after driving their car off the Frederica Street boat ramp and into the Ohio River.

Robert and Doris Browning, of 2925 Eastern Parkway in Owensboro, had been at the Campbell Club before their 1988 Lincoln went into the river, said Owensboro police officer Doug Esther. Robert Browning was 75 years old; Doris Browning was 73.

The couple owned Browning's Fine Furniture on Frederica Street.

"(The investigation) is still open at this time, but right now, it's appearing to be a tragic accident," Esther said. "There's no indication of any foul play at this ...
