If simple pleasures are the best, and gentle ones not far behind, that may help explain the immense and infectious charm of "Anne of Avonlea," a continuation of the "Anne of Green Gables" serial that premieres tonight at 8 on the Disney Channel.

The first four parts of this classic children's story, adapted from the books by Lucy Maud Montgomery, were shown as part of the "WonderWorks" series on PBS last year.
