The Emily of New Moon television series is based on the story Emily of New Moon written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Maud, as she liked to be called, wrote two more books about Emily's life: Emily Climbs and Emily's Quest.
Maud is best known for writing Anne of Green Gables and seven more novels about Anne and her family. Born in 1873, she started writing the Anne series of books in 1903 while living on Prince Edward Island. Although the Anne and Emily books take place on Prince Edward Island, Maud moved to Ontario in 1911, where she began writing the Emily books in 1923.
