In 1876, Lucy Maud Montgomery, age 1 1/2 years, came to live with her grandparents at the Macneill homestead in Cavendish. This house was to be her home for the next 35 years until 1911, when her grandmother died, and Maud married Rev. Ewan Macdonald and moved to Leaskdale, Ontario.
