It was in 1837 that Alexander Pushkin ambled from his house here to a nearby cafe' and finally to the duel that would end his life, sealing his fate as Russia's poet laureate and favorite legend and touching off an outpouring of emotions that has flowed for 150 years.
Commemorating the anniversary of Pushkin's death today and a century-and-a-half-old national love affair with the poet, this city has reenshrined the house, the cafe' and the duel site in a week of fanfare that climaxes with a classical concert in the Leningrad Kapelle this evening.
