What: Alexander Pushkin, Russia's greatest poet, the founder of
modern Russian literature, and hero to generations of
Russians and Americans alike, is coming to Washington in
June. A larger-than-life statue of Pushkin by one of
Russia's leading contemporary sculptors, Alexander
Burganov, will be erected on the grounds of George
Washington University at the corner of H and 22nd Streets
in the District -- the first such statue of Pushkin, or
of any major Russian figure, in the United States.
