Yes, I think he did:nod:. I love The Joshua Tree. (Turns out, I also love stripping firemen!)
I was not into U2 until Achtung Baby (I was too busy ratting my hair and going to Ozzy Osbourne concerts) but now I love me some Joshua Tree.
And Stripping Fireman.

The old adage of taking a shower with a raincoat on is pretty close.
;)
:ladysman: I don't think Isidro is allowing her imagination to wander enough on this point. :bday_2: my birthdays in two weeks, and I would love it if you changed your avatar to a picture of you standing in your shower in a yellow raincoat and hat! It would make my day, and possibly turn this ice cold :cold:

What a delicate way of phrasing it.
I'm not allowed to tell you, or all the blokes with small shoes would kill me.
Now, I know that secrecy about body part is denied to women by virtue of a woman's virtues being... in one's face..... so to speak!
You'll just have to approach it on a case by case basis.
Altering in size isn't really the case so much as familiarity enabling to feel that way. I suppose muscular development might come into it. [!] This could be a subject for some serious research!
I'll have to check my calendar.
Just a wee segue off the track, musing on this subject:
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to search for actual facts on the internet for this kind of subject? If you tried, I'd guess that the first billion or so responses will be porn rather than science.
Guess I'll just have to use the real thing.

What happened to this discussion?!!!!! Its supposed to be thread about the 'Benefits of Celibacy and Chastity' not some chat about body parts and private life. Haven't you people any pride, or at the very least decency? I check out this thread out of curiosity as to what people think on a certain subject, only to find this disgusting conversation going on. If you want to broadcast the condition of your love life, please, please! Don't do it on the Religion section of a literature website! If you are so desperate, talk to your spouse, not the world.
I can't believe this...
:angel: Sorry you misunderstood the discussion; we are talking about the benefits of Celibacy. One only knows if one has experienced it. Religion is, at best, a guideline for people; Experience is fire testing it.
You know, I've read some of Dostoyevsky, it often seems very distressing. I know of at least two serial killers who were also great fans of his work. Be careful, my child, and don't take things so seriously. By the way, Robert Frost has much more uplifting poetry than one about being destroyed twice (that's really bad luck I'd say) Best Wishes:thumbs_up

I mean, I've seen that movie more times than I can count and I think "what is rosebud" is is a very hard question to answer, honestly. The literal meaning is obvious, but the metaphorical meaning is a lot more complex.

thanks for the recommendation :wave:

In my experience usually a big hacksaw smuggled in a birthday cake does the trick. The math can help as the more candles involved usually confuses the guards. Put it this way if Einstein and a moron shared the same cell my money would be on the latter to escape every time. :)

A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning by John Donne
As virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say
The breath goes now, and some say, No:
So let us melt, and make no noise,
No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move,
'Twere profanation of our joys
To tell the laity our love.
Moving of th' earth brings harms and fears,
Men reckon what it did and meant,
But trepidation of the spheres,
Though greater far, is innocent.
Dull sublunary lovers' love
(Whose soul is sense) cannot admit
Absence, because it doth remove
Those things which elemented it.
But we by a love so much refined
That our selves know not what it is,
Inter-assurèd of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips, and hands to miss.
Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to aery thinness beat.
If they be two, they are two so
As stiff twin compasses are two;
Thy soul, the fixed foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if th' other do.
And though it in the centre sit,
Yet when the other far doth roam,
It leans and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must
Like th' other foot, obliquely run;
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
And makes me end where I begun.
Your request Rimbaud, so as not to clutter up the love and passion thread.

The Flea by John Donne
Mark but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deny'st me is;
It sucked me first, and now sucks thee,
And in this flea our two bloods mingled be;
Thou know'st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pampered swells with one blood made of two,
And this, alas, is more than we would do.
Oh stay, three lives in one flea spare,
Where we almost, yea, more than married are.
This flea is you and I, and this
Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is;
Though parents grudge, and you, w'are met,
And cloistered in these living walls of jet.
Though use make you apt to kill me,
Let not to that, self-murder added be,
And sacrilege, three sins in killing three.
Cruel and sudden, hast thou since
Purpled thy nail in blood of innocence?
Wherein could this flea guilty be,
Except in that drop which it sucked from thee?
Yet thou triumph'st and say'st that thou
Find'st not thyself, nor me the weaker now;
'Tis true, then learn how false fears be:
Just so much honor, when thou yield'st to me,
Will waste, as this flea's death took life from thee.
I like this one.
He's a metaphysical poet, so his poetry is characterized by really long, sometimes paradoxical, metaphors. It can be hard to read.

Here's something funny. Every time I discuss humor with my British cousins, they say that British humor is 'more sophisticated' the our 'silly American slapstick'. They thought Monty Python was a bunch of Americans with fake British accents when I showed them 'sophisticated' humor. :lol:

Hey, Monty Python really is sophistocated humor. All six of them went to Oxford and other ivy league schools, and as a result, intigrated their philosophical talent into their humor. Monty Python was far far ahead of its time, that even television today hasn't caught up to it. It was the first show to make use of the techniques used in then contemporary theatre, such as self-reflexivness and meta-reference, as well as typical Beckettian word games. It was the first show to apply postmodern aesthetics with a satarization of 'high culture' as well as a loose and jumbled up, dream-like narrative (which has more associations with surrealism than postmodernism), and let's not forget the almost consistent use of absurd irony in almost every single sketch.

The point is not that they are making jokes about philosophers (though they do in some sketches), but that they are applying postmodern and surrealist aesthetic theory to their humor.

Here's something amusing: After wandering around on the internet, I came across a little funny fact; Director Robert Altman once said in a 2000 interview that he thought Titanic and American Beauty were two of the most "dreadful movies" he's ever seen.
I find that so funny, for in my pre-Kubrick and pre-Altman years I looved Titanic, but now I just see it as a harmless though manipulative piece of melodrama. But who else but Robert Altman would come out and say that Titanic is the worst movie ever? But in all seriousnes, Altman is just the perfect person to make that kind of statement. Look at his films, they are the complete opposite of the typical big-budget multiple Oscar-winner. Too bad there's not more like him. My props to you sir for your bravery :)

"Typical big-budget multiple Oscar-winner" isn't a fair portrayal of James Cameron's films. Where he lacks in plot and content, he has continuously pushed the boundaries of film technology. Which is why he has a consistent record for producing the most expensive films ever made. It's difficult to look back on Titanic and realize what an amazing visual spectacle it was for its time. His movies may not be thought provoking but they push the science and capabilities of film-makers forward.

Oh of course. Believe me, Altman's opinion is not my own, even though I comend him for it at the same time. For example, I will always have a personal sentiment for The Lord of the Rings because of the fact that I grew up enthusiastically enthralled by it.
That said, special-effects are not ends in themselves, and despite the fact that Titanic is Citizen Kane when compared to something like Transformers, I don't think that an entire movie is justified by its special-effects. Either way, I don't think Robert Altman saw enough bad movies :lol:

James Joyce died this day in 1941.
"A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead."
