Jack_Aubrey
06-17-2005, 01:00 AM
Hmmm, sounds suspicious. I'll check it out and get back to you, I'm always up for new movie suggestions. In my opinion though, it's gonna be pretty hard to beat Johnny Depp as Thompson.

chmpman
06-17-2005, 01:04 AM
Surely. What do you think of Burton remaking Willy Wonka..., with Depp?
I also read Thompson and Depp continued to hang out after the movie, and all his clothes were actually Thompson's.

Jack_Aubrey
06-17-2005, 01:05 AM
I give it a :-/ face. If it's fine the way it was leave it alone. I love Johnny Depp, don't get me wrong, but people are tampering with classic films these days. I view Willy Wonka as a classic film, as well as a good show for little kids. What do you think?

chmpman
06-17-2005, 01:13 AM
Yea, i have the same sentiments toward all the remakes that seem to be coming out (and there really seems to be a lot of them). I work in a video store (a ****ty one at that) and the other day someone told me Kubrick's 2001 (one of my alltime favorites) should be remade. I almost told her to leave.

Jack_Aubrey
06-17-2005, 01:17 AM
Haha, good work. It's just really unoriginal to remake movies. It's taking someone else's thoughts, and most remakes are worse than the original so it's practically like all remakes are for naught anyway.

Dancing Nana has become my bestest best chum since my Best Friend in All the World had to retire from cyberspace for an indefinite period of time. Of course, it takes Nana, everyone on this forum, and everyone on about four or five other forums to fill the void (well, not really, but close enough), and yes being pals with an animated emoticon isn't really a substitute for a real living person, but since taking up my current occupation as basement-dwelling troll with no life, I can't afford to be picky.

Besides, Nana never complains when I go off-topic or talk about things that don't make sense to anyone else or use the odd naughty word, do you Nana?

Magpies are actually members of the Crow family. This family of birds, which also includes ravens, jays, and nutcrackers, has evolved the highest degree of intelligence among birds. Members of this family have learned to count, can solve puzzles, and can quickly learn to associate certain noises and symbols with food.
They have been known to steal shiny coins, spoons, bits of aluminum foil -- even a glass eye.
or alternativley heres a dictionary definition (http://www.freesearch.co.uk/dictionary/magpies)

magpie

noun {C}

1 a bird with black and white feathers and a long tail:
- Magpies are attracted to small shiny objects which they carry away to their nests.

2 someone who likes to collect many different types of objects, or use many different styles

Chavs exist all over the UK, however they are most commonly found in glasgow where they are referred to as "neds", the ned is basically the Chavs bigger, nastier brother. They do not necessarilly like hip-hop, but they do enjoy getting outta their head on MD 20/20 or Bucky. For further information see here (www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk)

Bong it aint cos the brother is powerful, the people are violent little so and so's, who would feel absolutely no remorse in taking out their knife and stabbing someone.

Throughout my time in Glasgow I saw sights involving these kind of people that would be enough to give you nightmares for weeks. I have absolutely no fears about walking down dark alleyways of any city, Glasgow has taught me how to act in every situation you could possibly dream of encountering.

I am being quite serious here check the links I gave. You would get yourself killed by the glasgow version.

ok I still don't like em and they've got nothing on the violence in NYC, Philly, Camden, or any of the other city places. (the gangs here use guns, assault rifles and other stuff like that) Most of the neds seem like street hoods that are easily manipulated by people in power... I can one powerful person using many neds to rob things without getting the blood on his/her hands.

I don't know...if I had a choice of violent deaths, I think I'd prefer taking one in the head from an AK than being hacked to death with a machete. But Mr. Bong-Bong is right -- there's more threat from American gangs because of the randomness of their gun violence. They can take out there intended victim and six or seven innocent bystanders in a matter of seconds.

Bong, its impossible to explain if you aint seen it just believe me. People use knifes and other things because its hard to get a gun in the UK (cant just walk into WalMart, for example). Also it takes a lot more guts to go up to someone and tear his insides out with a knife, than it does to shoot someone whilst driving away. I dont know if youve ever heard someone crying with pain (real pain) but its not pleasant. Also these people have no interest in being used as pawns and generraly dont get involved. Their main function is just to commit mindless acts of violence.

Also Camden? you're kidding right. Glasgow is still like NYC from the 70's.

I'm not saying you should like them, but you should recognise that they would do away with you in a matter of seconds.

ihrocks
06-18-2005, 10:48 AM

Right now I (a minor) could buy all kinds of weapons without any questions asked. I understand that it takes much bigger....alot more courage to kill with a knife rather than a gun, but I'm saying that the people here could take out hundreds of thousands of people. The fact that they murder for no reason is a little intimidating because alot of the killers in America have a reason (business, etc.) The entire world is really censored up! It's insane how much violence happens in the world and not much is done about it.

kilted exile
06-18-2005, 11:03 AM
I have to say I find Canada humorous in that aspect.
Toronto is beginning to get a decent reputaion for gun crimes, but from what I can see there is not much mindless violence it seems mainly over drugs/ turf wars.
The only mindless violence I have encountered in Canada, is what happened to my younger brother (got jumped by three guys leaving a bar: ended up with fractured eye sockets/nose and jaw - leading to major reconstructive surgery on his face.) The police have a suspect, waiting for case to go through the courts.

On a couple of occassions leaving bars I have come across a few wannabe hard-men, however normally all of this can be resolved with a few well placed words before any violence is neccessary. Normally turn a pale colour when I inform them that despite the police car around the corner I would quite willingly introduce their face to my size 11 boot.
I think the main reason there is so little violence in Canada is because there are so few social problems, the kids dont have the disillusionment of knowing there are no jobs so they dont really get into the street lifestyle. Those that do are usually rebelling against their middle-class background and run at the sight of any real trouble

guns don't kill people, people kill people... yeah yeah yeah its a cliche... but I own 3 guns - soon to be four, never shot anyone...

Outlawing guns won't stop outlaws from getting guns.

Someone is going to think twice before shooting at you if you can shoot back.

my two cents.

Still here, I see Jack's been keeping you company as well :)

Exams done... as far as I know, now it's that 'wait for the rest of the results' period.

I have a thing for anything that burns, candles, scented sticks, the other scented... things, as far as its scent isn't offending that is.

Koa
06-22-2005, 12:53 PM
LOL sorry I hadnt seen it... I guess I was typing it while you posted that.

I think I'll be off now...to tv again lol...very active day: wrote a letter, been online, watched tv. Scary... Tomorrow at least I'll have to be back at pretending to study!

Wow maybe I can turn on the satellite tv and enjoy a Spanish quiz game I got addicted to a few nights ago... But then one of my favourite shows begins so I have a hard choice...uhm... LOL I sound like a tv-addict but, apart from today, I dont usually watch much tv.
But tv in summer is great...lots of old stuff and reruns and good old trash everywhere (cos in summer all italians are supposed to enjoy outdoors activities (most cinemas even close for the summer, well now the big new ones with many rooms keep open though) so noone bothers to put new things on tv...and that's when I start to enjoy tv! :D)

Jay

That really is a most hideous thing to discuss food when all there is to eat here is a can of artichoke hearts, which I have nearly finished. And to wash it down a cup of hot chocolate. Pitiful? Perhaps but I really am living directly off tips and I don't ahve any money until after I work this evening.

As for Anarchy in the UK, my chum in London reports the Tube is down again and his neighborhood (where one of the bombing suspects was nabbed the other day) is again crawling with police activity.

Ah, the good ol' days, when his biggest worry was how avoid Hugh Grant at the local pubs. Or worse, the Mr. & Mrs. David Beckhams.
