You are close; I was born in the year of the Tiger!....it's all fun and games in here. I am old enough to be my crush's mom!
I'm a tiger too, mom Janine

Oh horrors! Thank God there was no marketing, nor a producer; it's in the archives in Hollywood, buried somewhere! Thank God, no one has suggested a second showing. Some of the views were truly blackmail material. Mind you, nothing indecent involving me:lol:
Poster's been doing some editing work lately :brow: ...
I think it was a late night hijacking of this thread. I will have to confess now, that I have a crush on someone with a very long name, but alas, he's too young for me....story of my life! Yep....
Aw, poor Janine! ... too young for you, isn't he? :p
Actually, I should not say this; but I don't think they were naughty that night. They both were too worn out. Later, if they weren't a bit naughty, I would not have my lovely grand-daughter. Wish they would get naughty again and give me a grandson, too.
I have always wondered what couples do when no one is seeing them. What's all this thing about honeymoon, and baby factory working late at night, uh? Can anyone explain? What's its appeal and how does it work? Aw, I'm so naive...
....
:p ...
Ohhhh..one of those foot fetish guys....eekkk.....:eek2:

But beware, Max, before you go for kidnapping - Scandinavian ladies might have swords to defend themselves with if they don't want to be kidnapped ;) And surely their fathers would not be unarmed either, so you'd better be careful!
That's what I love about Valkyries :brow:
... though... I can be really convincing :brow:

Hey tiger, I have news for you, Mrs. Robinson is in dire need of her her beauty sleep! NO 4 o'clockers for me tonight. I am already looking like this :eek2: You'll have to delay you move till tomorrow night; I may be livelier then.
Poster's been doing some editing work lately :brow: ... Wait! I missed this post. It's highly entertaining. You don't miss a thing, do you? I did edit something out; I wondered what others might think. I will tell you about it someday - as I said before - boys will be boys!

I am trying now to relax and watch a movie. I should have started earlier, right? No, it is not The Graduate....hahah....even though in 1967 that truly was my favorite movie!...that and Summer of '42, hummm...those were good movies...:brow:

Ah, Annamariah, you have plenty of time. I was a late bloomer, myself, and sometimes now I think I am a nun! Thank God some on here kid around with me still.
Last night I looked forward to two things only: a good movie and a good sleep, but it got humid and I think that bothered me; so I didn't sleep well.

Well, I'm always trying to figure out which sister I am most like. I guess I came up with something in-between sense and sensibility. But when it comes to staying up too late, I definitely have no sense!
Saving Private Ryan: a true epic of the war genre That really was a good film. I should write something up about it in the movie thread. I had forgotten Spielberg directed it; also, great a cast of actors. I thought the cinamotograpy was just great, too; had that documentary look to it. I also watched all the extra features; I always do! Love to see how films are made. So what did you watch last night? The Thin Red Line is another good war film. Also, the two latest war films by Clint Eastwood are excellent.
Go rest and you'll feel better in the morning. I should do the same. Thanks, I might go and sleep now. Didn't get good sleep last night.

I have the same habit, that's why I prefer full featured DVDs, like the special 2-Disc edition I have of "The Last Samurai" :D
So what did you watch last night?
The epilogue for "Prison Break", that one titled "The Final Break". I don't like TV Shows coming to an end, much less when one fave character dies a tragic death, though he dies for love. Self-sacrifice is something I agree with, though I'd prefer a "happily ever after" ending every now and then. SO I feel so sad that the day doesn't seem to be getting any clearer http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad029.gif

[I Shot Andy Warhol]
I Shot Andy Warhol
In 1968, mad, radical-feminist genius Valerie Solanas shot pop-art icon Andy Warhol, seriously wounding him. This film traces her bizarre life leading to that moment, including the writing of her "SCUM Manifesto," which decrees males biologically obsolete.
Original title: I Shot Andy Warhol
Year: 1996
Director: Mary Harron
Cast: Lili Taylor, Jared Harris, Lothaire Bluteau, Martha Plimpton, Stephen Dorff

Yes, it's one of Fox's latest series. I don't watch that much TV either, but when I find a commendable series I just need to have it. TV series have the benefit of having more time to develop the details of a story. I'm one of those addicts to the seventh art and the like :D

So you had a movie night with a classic. Last night I had a date with a classic too. I watched the first episode of "Airwolf" (a classical TV series of the 80s) which reminded me of a good time of my childhood. Back then, when I was a kid, it was broadcasted here on Saturday nights and I had never seen these episodes since then. Now I'm getting the whole seasons on DVD, which is the best option always, especially with classics hardly ever broadcasted nowadays :D

The only problem is that a dead teacher is not a very good teacher, and I need some good teachers to pass my courses and graduate. Thank you, Janine, though my drawing skills are hardly anything compared to yours! Your drawings are amazing :)
Annamariah, you are too humble and modest. I love your sensitive drawings so much. Don't ever think that they are 'just drawings or sketches'. Michelangelo and Leonardo Davinci both did extraordinary drawings. I happen to see some at the National Museum in Washington years ago. I was so entranced with the technique of delicate pencil line; so very impressive. I think you have have great skill seriously. I have had a art college education and much more time to practice my craft. You have lots of time to develop yours. Don't abandon it as I have in recent years. I hope you can pursue art in some form because you are young and it's wonderful to have talent.

I thought that was where I saw them. Do you know which pages they are on? or where-abouts?
Max, I will get to your crazy post later.

Thank you, Janine, though my drawing skills are hardly anything compared to yours! Your drawings are amazing :)
I will judge you both when I find your works. It may take me some time but I'm gaining curiosity ;)
The only problem is that a dead teacher is not a very good teacher, and I need some good teachers to pass my courses and graduate. Paralyzing them just might work, though, they would still be able to teach, but their days of running away would be over :D
This is why I suggested to shoot sedative darts at them on the "School Bells" thread. Now I have it all figured at a body count of zero. No casualties at all, just prisoners :D
(No, I'm not really a crazy and violent person at all! Really!)
Oh, well.... I AM
So you are not, uh? I bet you're one of those modern-day Valkyries, singing and dancing all the time just like Tarja and Anette, uh?
You can find some pictures in the "Let out the artist in you" topic, if you have the energy to go through it :D Or maybe I can send you some pics via PM :) Just don't expect anything too fancy! Just some plain pencil sketches.
Okay, then I'll just go fetch my vitamins and I'll head straight for that thread... so energy is not a problem for me... I HAVE MY VITAMINS SOMEWHERE NEAR :D
Oh yes, this is very much more than true. I remember what Leonardo used to reply when he was asked what he was doing, when he was doing nothing (visibly ;)) but staring at some form of material. He used to say "I am working"... and after some time people stared in wonder at the marvels he created. Who knows? We may have a gifted creator in our Anna
Anna, if you found you have a talent, then don't let it go. If you do, you will regret one day. It has happened to people I know, and they regret.
Max, I will get to your crazy post later.
Okay... though I may have become an inmate at the nearest madhouse by then ....

You can find many smileys and emoticons at Free Smileys (http://www.freesmileys.org/). You'll love that site  That must be the same site my friend directed me to yesterday...does it have something to do with Crawler? Once I downloaded one of their cool screensavers; but then it stopped working right and I could not longer get it to install as a screensaver. Probably since I use Explorer and not Firefox.
I think I want to be remembered once I'm gone. It's strange; it's a feeling I seldom had in the past.
How could anyone forget you, Max!? I sure hope you're not going anywhere very soon. That feeling does come with age. I hope they don't forget me. I am hoping I am unique and eccentric enough they would be able to forget me. :D
Never ever pay the shrink anymore. From now on I will handle your condition... in a very unprofessional way, with fully unguaranteed results...
Might you have a psychiatric couch? :brow:hummmm; interesting prospect....
The movie thread, about "Saving Private Ryan". You said that when you had some time, you would post something about that movie on the movie thread :D
Oh yeah, I got side-tracked again and volunteered to be casting director in DanielBenoit's new Shakespeare Youtube production. Hey, Max, you are a ham, how bout joining in? If you don't have a video camera you can just recite you voice playing a role. I am casting director so I can find you a good part. We will make our own beautiful music (movie) together.
But seriously, I need to write up about 10 movies I have seen lately which were truly great. Right now I am watching this cool documentary on James Dean, directed by Robert Altman. Funny, I picked this cheap DVD up a long time ago, for a dollar, and it's really good. The-made-for-TV film, preceeding the documentary, was fairly good, but dated; but this b/w documentary is truly intriguing. What prompted all this was my recent viewing of East of Eden. It was incredible; ever see the film? I will get to writing them up next week. I am still not caught up on some very important email replies, which have to come first.
Very similar we are! Seems that way. Not only crazy night owls but also we all appreciate art. You can view my artwork right in my album on my profile page. Just click on 'view all albums'....a lot of people don't realise I have about 6 albums of photos in there. I too have worked primarily in pencil and some pen and ink. Anna and my work are similar in that we both like delicate soft pastel pencil and linear elegant line.
Yes, it's one of Fox's latest series. I don't watch that much TV either, but when I find a commendable series I just need to have it. TV series have the benefit of having more time to develop the details of a story. I'm one of those addicts to the seventh art and the like :D
Oh, I love long productions. I meant to ask you if you ever saw the miniseries Shackleton - about the Antarctic explorer. I love that series and researched extensively the real man and have read several books on him. He meet his ship in Buenos Aires; is that anywhere near where you live, Max? I am greatly interesting in that part of the world, especially since it's so close to Antarctica. I just bought the great nature film March of the Penquins, too. When I looked at my globe the other night I just realised how far south Argentina really was...wow, that is so cool!
Nah! I'm not that hot... though I can burn... given the proper temp! :brow: ummmm...sounds interesting.....is that a come-one line?:goof:
I look more like an ancient warrior marked by the scars of many battles ....
You sound rugged.....are you the gladiator type? or a bull-fighter. How so with those scars? Are the interior or exterior scars?
Actually I don't pretend every finale to be a happy one, but lately most shows that I learned to love have ended in a sad way and it's getting rather like too much for my poor heart.... it's this feeling of having something stuck in the throat... :(
There really are a lot of open-ended shows of recent and they tend to leave a person with an uneasy feeling...they can be unsettling when watched right before bedtime, even sort of disturbing. I find I wake up thinking about the meaning of the ending. Those type endings are great and real and all but sometimes happy ending are more satisfying.
Airwolf - I never heard of it and I used to watch films and TV shows with my son from that era. It's so cool how we can get the old series on DVD's now. I buy the ones I really loved as a kid or the older films I liked in the 70, 80's, 90's. I watched House on the DVD set from my library since I don't have cable upstairs. I was curious to see what everyone was raving about. I did find it entertaining since I like Hugh Laurie. I also watched his family series in Britian of 40 Something. It too was great fun. I buy a lot of BBC dramas.

My dear Janine, I'll reply to your post tomorrow because tonight I'm just falling asleep on keyboard :D

Anna, THOSE ARE PIECES OF ART and not just sketches, and I MEAN IT. I wish I could be capable of such demonstration of talent

Yes, indeed those pieces of art by Annamariah are wonderfully rendered. I think her style is reminescent of Ingres work...hope I spelled that correctly. I love his work and have a book of his portrait drawings...simply stunning and lovely imagery.

I really don't now about Crawler, but I'll see what I can find  Probably the screensaver is incompatible with your Vista. There are programs that were written for XP but somehow Vista can't run them properly, so I don't really think it has to do with your browser but more with the Operating System.

Shackleton starring Kenneth Branagh? No, I haven't seen it yet. I'll have to add it to my list. I live in a city located some 622 miles to the west of Buenos Aires, quite a distance I must say. Buenos Aires is the place by the sea and my place is the one by the mountains :D

Oh yes, TV producers want us to think a lot, to analyze the message they intend to give, and hopefully to find something in ourselves through the story.

The plot for Airwolf is more or less like this: It's the story of an advanced combat helicopter developed by a secret agency for special missions. Its creator prefers to use it for personal benefit though, so the government hires another pilot to recover it from its wayward inventor but he has conditions, that is, to work for the government in special missions piloting the chopper while the government must pull some strings in order to find his brother, missing in action during the Vietnam war where they both served. It was a very advanced/original action series for the time, created by Donald P. Bellisario, and I think it somewhat opened the gates for the action/sci-fi shows of today. Jean Michael Vincent, Alex Cord and Ernest Borgnine were the main stars. The great Sylvester Levay was in charge of the soundtrack.
House IS A MUST. A top-notch cast for a top-quality show  :D

Thee classic one of 1955 staring the amazing shortly realised talent of James Dean, who tragically died in a car crash at age 24. This Steinbeck movie adaptation's wonderful. Shackleton starring Kenneth Branagh? Oh, yes um. He's my favorite actor. I collect all his films and his screenplay books and anything else I can locate. I also have a channel page on Youtube dedicated to him but with playlists encompassing a lot more. Shackleton is a must-see. It's an amazing story and totally true. I have researched it and the real story is even more amazing and hard to believe. Let me know when you will watch it and I will rewatch here, too. I own the 3 disk set....great stuff!
No, I haven't seen it yet. I'll have to add it to my list. I live in a city located some 622 miles to the west of Buenos Aires, quite a distance I must say. Buenos Aires is the place by the sea and my place is the one by the mountains :D His crew went ahead of him and he meet them a week or so later in Buenos Aires. Ever since then it has had this allure for me; also South Georgia Island must be amazing to see. Mountains are nice to live by though. I bet your area is beautiful.
I feel I've watched March of the Penguins.... is it a BBC documentary? Not sure if it's BBC; but it's the documentary that came out a couple of years ago; believe the film makers were French. Even the 'making of the film' is amazing (included on the disk).
  ditto!
I'm much skinnier than a gladiator :p and the scars are more internal than external :( Skinny is good but down nearer to the antarctic one would think you need a little padding to stay warm. I figured those were internal wounds; probably in the heart area.
Oh yes, TV producers want us to think a lot, to analyze the message they intend to give, and hopefully to find something in ourselves through the story.
Yep, so true...

Thanks for the synopsis. That does sound different and intriguing. I will check that out on Youtube. Wow, Ernest Borgnine was in that...I thought you were too young to watch his old shows. Is he still alive? I collect sound tracks. I wonder if you can get Levay's work on CD's. I will check that out, too.
House IS A MUST. A top-notch cast for a top-quality show  :DLaurie makes the show. He's an amazing actor. I loved him in everything I have seen him in. He was in the Kenneth Branagh group of friends; actually Emma Thompson's friends. He's in Ken's film Peter's Friends. Hugh L is very talented. Of course, what really cracks me up about Dr House is that he nearly kills off the patient, right before he saves them...happens everytime. He sure uses the defibulators enough, doesn't he?
Thank you for waiting

Provocative who, me? Nah!! I'm so naive that I can't even tell a "no" from a "maybe" ........
Thanks for taking a peek. Hope something in there delights you. Many somethings, your galleries are very colorful and lively :D
As soon as I set my eyes on it I'll let you know http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1980_boogie_down.gif
His crew went ahead of him and he meet them a week or so later in Buenos Aires. Ever since then it has had this allure for me; also South Georgia Island must be amazing to see. Mountains are nice to live by though. I bet your area is beautiful.
That's true, I live in a very beautiful country with all sorts of scenery
Skinny is good but down nearer to the antarctic one would think you need a little padding to stay warm. I figured those were internal wounds; probably in the heart area.
Well I'm more slender than skinny though lately I've been developing a couple rolls around my waist. When my mom has lunch ready I behave more or less like this: http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1987_food.gif though fortunately I haven't gone this far: http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1947_eating_popcorn_and_drinking_beer.gif so I still have some hope.
My heart area would be healed with a bit of this: http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/2388_smoochers.gif
I have seen a few of Ernest's works though I must confess I'm more learned in modern-day movie and TV industry. He's 92 by now, and still active. I found he has some projects in production for next year. I found Airwolf's soundtrack while surfing the web. Here it's very hard to find soundtracks, especially classical ones, unless you buy them on-line.
Laurie makes the show.
It's incredible how he portrays a character who gives a first impression of a somewhat cold, insensitive doctor only concerned in diagnosing, but when we watch carefully we can see how the man has a heart of his own, how he seeks for a way to heal a patient and how he suffers when he's about to lose the fight, though he pretends he's just doing his job in an objective way. Only great actors can portray characters with such conflicting personalities :)
You get an A plus for art history - very good! Did you look that one up online? maybe Wikipedia. I am onto you now. Yes, portraits were his thing. His drawing are luminous.
I use an amazing Firefox add-on called WikiLook, a Wikipedia and Wiktionary lookup. You highlight any word or phrase, for example Ingres, and a sub-window appears with any information it could find, when available on Wikipedia or Wiktionary :D

Stabbing each other is much more practical than picking fights with other countries. You don't need to build so many fanciful ships for that... just knives and one or two swords and/or shields from time to time... maybe http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/emoticon-misc-017.gif ......... http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing021.gif

I don't think though, it hoisted that American flag on it's mask, during the shooting, do you?...more like a skull and crossbones. It's moored in some harbor in Florida, probably near or in Disney World. Cool, isn't it? It has probably be used in a lot of films; yes, that is a possibility.

I guess that lying and backstabbing on Survivor is necessary in order to create alliances, and to try not to get voted off.
TAR is more merit-based because the teams' success depends on their own efforts and skills. So, there is little need for lying and backstabbing. But, some teams still resort to these unnecessary shenanigans.

so TAR is your fave?
AmericanEagle
09-17-2009, 04:41 PM
^ Yes!
It's nice to see all the places that they visit, and all the different languages and customs. Most of the tasks and challenges are entertaining/hilarious for the viewers.
For some reason though, some of the racers seem to think that Spanish is the universal language of the world. I remember that the racers were speaking Spanish to people in Cambodia.
I would say, however, that TAR does have its nasty moments. Some racers are rude to the locals, and are constantly running up and down the street yelling: "Does anyone speak English?! Why doesn't anyone speak English?!" and "Why won't anyone help us?!" and "I hate this country!" I think that it's shows like this that give Americans a bad reputation overseas.
Haunted
09-17-2009, 04:49 PM
^ I agree, that's really rude. One of the reasons I don't watch. Like I want to see people behaving badly *frown*
AmericanEagle
09-17-2009, 04:54 PM
^ Well, it's only a small fraction of the racers who are rude. Most of them try to be courteous. Some of them even learn a few words and phrases in different languages.
In TAR1, a racer said: "You have to approach people in an affable, friendly way! You don't do it like you're in New York!"
It's a shame that some racers in subsequent races don't heed that advice. I'm sure that more people would be willing to help you if you were nice to them, rather than accosting them.
Haunted
09-17-2009, 05:09 PM
^ Funny thing though, people in NY don't really talk like that, it's a stereotype. Once in a while you run into those types, but often people are quite helpful. One time I was on the subway platform, a girl fell right onto the tracks, I think she passed out. A guy immediately jumped down right onto the tracks to get her, no knowing even if any trains would pull into the station. He really risked his life to save her. That's a real life Superman Hero :)

AmericanEagle

^ Well, all reality TV is somewhat scripted. But I think that the comments that the racers make are candid. Unfortunately, a few of those candid comments can be quite offensive, but most of them are comical.
Here are two of the more comical ones: "Donkeys have souls, too."
Guy: "Who's my girl?"
Girl: "You are. No, I am."

^ It was a decent first episode, but not as good as last year's first episode.
They introduced a new twist at the beginning: one team would be eliminated right at the start line.
The teams that made it past the start line made their way to Tokyo, where they ate wasabi bombs, and had to lead 20 tourists through the busy streets of Japan.
In the second hour of the two-hour premiere, teams made their way to Ho Chi Minh City, where they had to collect mud and fertilize a tree. They also had to herd 150 ducks.

Rob appeared on Survivor: Marquesas, and Survivor All-Stars.
Amber appeared on Survivor: The Australian Outback, and won Survivor: All-Stars.

oh, life doesn't suck at all actually, :D
but no reality can replace the dream,
i rather live in my world, by my values, than in a world that someone else invented and trying to blend in
I don't have to face anything, this is my world, I'm creating
and it works :), so escape reality :D

Thank you, Atheist, you are always brilliant! Why are you an ex-hedonist?
Kids.
You can't do hedonism and kids at the same time. The sacrifices we make...

Isn't it sad that we adults have to be plagued with the concept of safe sex? I just can't quite decide where the whole thing ends. Do we wait the 2 or 3 weeks for a golden-haired youth to get tested before engaging in the experience of ecstacy? And just where do we stop with the prophylactics: do we place them on every erect and inverted surface?
There's another good reason for being ex-hedonist - I missed all that safe sex stuff. Safe sex to me was ensuring the handbrake was on - having nearly driven down a mountain inadvertently one night - or more frequently, making sure the husband was not going to arrive home!
Good point on barriers, though. I noticed just last week that older people are now giving STDs to each other at unprecedented rates. People over 60 whose partner has died or whom they have divorced are going out and having sex, completely unaware that they might catch clamydia or gonorrhea.
Until they develop symptoms.
Seems the only way to really approach it is: condoms until I know you well enough to trust you, or you are pronounced medically clean. I suspect the medical ticket would be a lot faster.

:ladysman: What a shame, and you have that whole Byron charm thing going, too ;)
 I suspect your lady, who almost caused your early demise, saw you as a young knight going after her dragon of a husband (or, perhaps, a draggin' husband)
:cold: I find that since I've passed 40; my doctors treat me like a pervert if I tell them that I am sexually active, particularly with someone half my age. On the other hand, they act like I'm just pitiful when I tell them I intend to remain single! "Oh, you'll find someone your age" :flare:
:( I find I can't really feel anything on the other side of a safe prophylactic: no heat, no intimacy, no shower of love...it's a bit better with lambskin; but not safer.
What does the guy feel?

Glad you enjoyed this part of TAR :)
I'm still not getting the suspense of a race though.
Was it because of the pace of the show? The challenges/tasks? The racers?

I'm not sure, I'm not getting who they are and why I should be interested in them. Maybe there should be an intro in the beginning of each episode, but I can also see how boring that would be for someone who watches every week.

^ There are intros for every team on the premiere episode. There are also confessionals throughout the entire season; I think that these are most helpful if you want get to know the racers. You can also get to know them by how they interact with their teammates, other racers, and the locals.

^ I didn't see the premiere episode with the intros. But even if I did, I'd have forgotten everything (short term memory here). Without a scripted & filmed intro in the beginning of each episode, it's just a bunch of people in a big rush making plenty of noises. Sometimes I find it annoying, I didn't even want to hear their babbling. I do like the travel element, it shows exotic places and put them in an interesting context.
I'm much better in following talent shows, I remember their acts and they have more personality to me that way. There're also recaps and specially filmed intros with each episode, so they're more branded.
