Padme's ship was a transporter for a queen...the Millenium Falcon was a cargo transport.

The one thing that the first three is missing...Harrison Ford...

That was just one example, most of the sets were like that.

Harrison Ford is great!

I was sorely disappointed with episodes 1-3. I mean they were cool and all to watch...except for episode 1. That kid was insanely annoying. But I just don't think they melded well together. Lucas shouldn't have directed it. I don't think he directed episodes 4,5,6 did he?

Of course the originals are better. I'm saying the continuity bothers me between the old and new bugs me.

Good evening :D

 Got a Star Wars discussion going on in here? I am afraid I can't really give an opinion there - I only saw the old ones (funny :p) and the first episode. I truly enjoyed that last one, but I had not heard of Star Wars before so it was "just" a grand movie to watch. And I like flying so (not that I can fly ) ... I could totally imagine that boy wanting to go fast :D.

I get it...noted and accepted...

It had to be hard to blend that, but I think that they tried to justify it by saying this is the life under the Republic vs the life under the Empire...or so it was mentioned in one of the Behind the Scenes...

Yes but I think it came off as more whiney and poutiness. I just don't see the sudden transition of Hayden Christenson's portrayl of Aniken to Darth Vader. It didn't work at all for me

Star wars, all 6 of them, have always had great ideas with horrible writing. It takes a lot for an actor to do much with a script that is that terrible. Look back at the old ones. They had poor scripts too.

I have spent since 11 oclock this morning cooking waraq inab ( stuffed vine leaves), that is 11 hours if anyone is counting, and its not quiet finished yet.
But I just tasted it and its tastes awful I might as well throw the lot in the bin :bawling:
and I know exactly why, the leaves were wierd, not my usual brand and I knew as soon as I started wrapping they were odd I mean they were brittle and a mix of the turkish type and the Levant type leaf but I continued and ...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Litnet is fairly quite as is the smilie domain, and sadly RL. so that I have spent the day cleaning and weeding the garden. Although my scrupulious honesty forcesd me to admit its more of a yard then a garden.

So why are you shifting furniture around? moving? spring cleaning? rat hunting!

Michael T

Type 'fractal' into google images and you can see some examples.

A fractal is generally "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,"[1] a property called self-similarity. Roots of mathematical interest on fractals can be traced back to the late 19th Century, the term however was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning "broken" or "fractured." A mathematical fractal is based on an equation that undergoes iteration

Fractals are difficult, since physical constraints require that you not stitch into infinity.

Tessellations, on the other hand, are perfect for quilts.

One of my favorite things ever. It is a hyperbolic tessellation.

Wicked, Superman's sweet. Some people think that he's boring because he's flawless, but that's what makes him interesting! Dr. Manhatten and Superman are two of the MOST interesting comic book characters because they have no weaknesses. Not many other superheros can say that.

^ I didn't know he auditioned for Season 4. I missed last season, saw Season 2 and 3. Season 5 was ok until I spotted him late in the contest. By then it was just down to 3 guys, and he really stands out. I was so sick of seeing Ewan's clown face and the same old-time dances in every solo, that's another reason I wanted him to win.

AmericanEagle
08-17-2009, 04:20 PM
^ Brandon made it all the way to the final Vegas episode. It was down to him and Gev for the final Guys spot in the Top 20.

I thought that Nigel was being cruel to Evan by commenting on his face and eyes, things that Evan has no control over. I was glad to see that Ellen and Mia stood up for him. Evan also endured a lot of criticism on the finale, especially after the country jive routine. The judges declared him the weak link in the dance, but I thought that Kayla was no better. While I wasn't rooting for Evan to win, I did think that he contributed something refreshing to the show, as opposed to the flails, rolls, and agonized facial expressions that most contemporary dancers bring.

Haunted
08-17-2009, 04:42 PM
^ It's not the first time Nigel did that, he said that about Heidi, I think that's her name, in Season 2. I thought it's mean too. I agree the facial expressions are bit much, I bet the choreographers told them to do it, then the judges criticize them for doing it. But Ewan makes way too many clown faces when he does his old dances and that really turns me off.

I didn't know Canada has it's own version. Same choreographers? I think Mia Michaels is excellent.

AmericanEagle
08-17-2009, 04:53 PM
^ Some of the American choreographers guest-choreograph on the Canadian version, but for the most part, the choreographers are Canadian.

I'm on the fence about Mia. She is an excellent choreographer ("Hometown Glory", "Gravity"), but she sometimes gets extremely mean with the contestants. In Season 4, she was very mean to Jessica, and in Season 2, she was mean to Heidi. She also has a habit of 'benching' the dancers that she feels are inadequate, such as Heidi in "Calling You", Twitch in "Mercy" and "Dreaming With a Broken Heart", and Cedric in "I Thought We Had."

Haunted

Heidi and Travis. oh Travis came back as a choreographer but I missed most of it. He's one of my fave dancers.

She was so critical of everyone, and I thought most did a great job.

I think there's a difference between being critical and being unnecessarily mean. In Season 4, she told Jessica's partner (paraphrased): "You look tired of carrying [Jessica]; you need a new partner." In Season 2, she told Heidi (paraphrased): "You struggle with choreography; you know that." How are those comments supposed to help them become better dancers?

While I think that Mia's choreography is great, I also think that Sonya and Wade are right there with her.

She never comes across as being nice, though she seems to have mellowed a lot. I have a feeling she's hard to work with. I don't remember the names of the other choreographers without a face, but they're all great. My favorite dances are not all of Mia. I love all the different styles. So much better and more real than Dancing With the Stars. I don't watch that show, maybe a few minutes of it way back then, I thought it was a joke.

When Sabra hit the ground, I went "ouch!"

I think that the ballroom dances on SYTYCD:US are not that good because there are so few partner dancers in the Top 20. The show seems to favour contemporary dancers, and ignores ballroom/Latin/partner and hip hop dancers. Most of the hip hop and partner dancers that they do cast are cut before the Top 10, resulting in mediocre dances in those styles.

I do remember one hip hop dancer that I thought was very good, he's the one that designs his outfits. He's a natural. I was disappointed when he was voted down but not surprised. They seem to dismiss hip hop, maybe because they consider it street dancing? They did keep Ivan from Season 2 in the top 10. The only time that hip hop had a significant presence was in Season 4, where there were four hip hop specialists in the Top 20, and three dancers who had cross-training in hip hop. I think the focus on hip hop in that season was because Nigel was mad that Shane Sparks left SYTYCD to judge America's Best Dance Crew.

Is it starting over there now? you're right, they don't have much respect for hip hop despite they rave about the hip hop choreos. I think to them hip hop dancers are more limited and nichy, but when you watch them do other dances, they're just as good

AmericanEagle

^ Every couple that danced hip hop fell to the bottom 3 last season, with the exception of one or two. I think that the Canadian judges respect hip hop more, because many hip hop dancers/breakers/poppers were sent straight through to Toronto week (Vegas week in the US version) without having to do choreography. In the American version, every person who does hip hop in their audition has to do choreography. It's the Canadian voters that don't seem to like hip hop.

^ Yeah, the judges always say to the hip hop dancers, "We want to see if you can do other styles." It's as if they believe that only contemporary dancers can do other styles. But many of the contemporary dancers that they had on the show can't do anything outside their wheelhouse. For example, S5 Caitlin's hip hop was awful, and S5 Melissa's cha cha was dreadful.

AmericanEagle
08-26-2009, 08:33 PM
Finally the Canadian TV audience appreciates hip hop. I was happy that both couples that danced hip hop escaped the bottom 3. The judges, however, are a different story. Why keep the contemporary dancer who was bad in the samba over the hip hop dancer who was passable in the capoeira?

Lil' C joined in, saying to Brandon: "You don't impress me." Also, right before Brandon found out he was in the Top 20, Mia said to him (paraphrased): "I just can't take who you are."

oh that's mean. I wouldn't say that to even my least favorite dancer!

AmericanEagle

^ Her comments were even more ironic because she flat out said that she liked male dancers because of the strength that they bring. But then she criticizes Brandon, a strong male dancer. Luckily, Nigel and Mary came to his defense.

She recanted her statements after Brandon and Janette performed their cha cha. She probably saw that Brandon could win the whole competition, and she didn't want to look stupid in front of America.

She's tough. Who else did she take under her wings besides Travis? Come to think of it Travis isn't a strong male dancer, not strong like physically. He has beautiful lines.

AmericanEagle
08-28-2009, 02:06 AM
^ Mia loves the dancers that she can mould to fit her vision. Travis was young, and so she probably thought that she could 'create' something out of him. She also adores the dancers who are technically proficient in contemporary; she loved Danny in S3, and she loved Will in S4. She also seemed to love Alex Wong during the Vegas rounds; he is a professional ballet dancer. But that doesn't explain why she hated Brandon. I did some searching around, and found out that Mia thought that Brandon was lazy.

Brandon may have a laid back look but his big movements in his solos are just amazing.

AmericanEagle
08-28-2009, 02:14 AM
^ I agree. Brandon has technique, strength, flexibility, and a good personality. I have no idea why Mia would think that Brandon was lazy because many of the choreographers, including Louis Van Amstel, loved Brandon, and said that he had a great work ethic.

no, don't have cable :( Was it good?

The crews took Shane's criticism to heart, and they really pulled it up this week. The challenge was to integrate Bollywood-style moves into their routine, and I thought that all of the crews did a good job. Maybe Shane needs to lay the smackdown every week.

Haunted

Shane was tough on them?
are you saying they have a new Bollywood fusion hip hop now?

AmericanEagle
08-31-2009, 09:53 PM
^ Shane was p.o.'d last week because he thought that the crews had weak choreography, boring routines, brought no energy, and needed to stop recycling moves.

Every week, there are different challenges that each crew must complete. This week was the Bollywood challenge.

Haunted

do the crews choreo their own dances?

I love the Bollywood number on SYTYCD, the costumes were amazing!

AmericanEagle
08-31-2009, 10:22 PM
^ Yes, the crews choreograph their own dances. For example, in the Bollywood challenge, the crews were told: "You must incorporate bharata natyam / kathak / bhangra / etc. into your routine." A Bollywood choreographer (the one from SYTYCD) came to show them the moves, and then it was up to the crews to create a routine that incorporated their style with the assigned challenge.

let's make a guess. I say they'll have Trevis, because he's Mia's apprentice now. And it'll be a huge mistake not to have Neil, he's s crowd pleaser and chick magnet. They love Sabra, so she should be on too.

AmericanEagle
09-01-2009, 11:29 PM

Ah...Max...that is a sweet poem you wrote to Niamh and her love....

  Yeah, really...I think both your fathers would be raising an eyebrow! :brow:

That's close enough for me ... and I won't be ranting about age, no, no :p ... ... besides I know Brit ladies that rock!!! I can give many names :D Oh you go for thoese older gals, eh? Hey, honey, I can still rock it. I danced the whole night long at my son's wedding and mostly with his guy friends. It was a great fun!

Me too, especially for Irish ladies playing the fiddle :brow: I will have to change my first name to an Irish one, since my last is name is very Irish (from my ex). Hummm... I must invest in some fiddle lessons. I can fiddle around on Litnet most days of the week!

Thanks for the wishes for my prosperity, Janine
Sincerely, I do hope for that for you, Max. You deserve to meet a really nice and, likewise, deserving lady; one you can write a real love beautiful poem to.

Now let me add this.... I would talk to the father but if he refuses to give me his daughter, I am prepared for a kidnap
At my age, a man must be prepared for kidnapping elite operations, besides I've seen many S.W.A.T. procedures on TV/movies... I KNOW HOW TO DO IT
My advice to desperate bachelors: GO TAKE WHAT YOU WANT ... NOW

Ok, I like that! A man who is polite, but assertive, one who doesn't stand by ceremony entirely; will go for what he believes in and wants. One who will stand up against all odds to win the heart of his beloved; now that is a true knight for you. I don't think though that you will need a S.W.A.T. team. Maybe just a horse and a lance!

These guys started out hot, but then got a little more drunk than hot.......well, towards the end of the night, they got a little crazy. I don't drink, so don't blame me for my actions - must have been the endorphins! I was laughing my head off, when the crowd thinned out and they decided to strip off their jackets, neckties and vests to get comfortable, mind you, and these young pups got a little playful and a bit creative with their neckties...doing a sort of shimmy dance. Now, I am not complaining, since it was all in fun. I had to live down those silly videos, that they took all night long. I didn't care to relive myself (a middle-aged woman) dancing like a crazy person with all these young guys.
