heehee, never mind your little spelling problem, Night :)

In the region where I live, people don't distinguish between the sounds 'p' and 'b', so they call them hard b and soft b.
They'll end up saying funny things like "It's spelled with a soft b like Baul" when they actually mean it's a 'hard' b as in Paul.
also, they have a funny way of pronouncing cat (Katze) the same way as candle (Kertze), so it often sounds as if they were saying "I'll light the cat" or "The cats were burning"

I am having SUCH a hard time figuring out how to word my thesis statement for British Literature! I already have the whole paper outlined, but my professor said I had a "weak thesis"...after 5 re-writes I now have:

"The only valid interpretations of "Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti are those which take into consideration the poem's historical context."

eh, I got tired of the professor finding holes in my thesis, let him find holes in my paper, lol :p

I may have to change it to "The most popular interpretations of "Goblin Market" today are only valid when they take into consideration the poem's historical context."

edit: now I'm looking at it, and "the most popular interpretations" seems too vague...ugh...I'm so tired of this poem now! lol

Yes indeed, we are. And some are trouble makers also. Trying to handel it.
How was the correction? Sometimes I spend over one hours on one paper trying to understand what the person who wrote it want to say. Some still mix up between Arabic and English. They write sentences in English but in an Arabic style and ponctuation.

miss tenderness
11-17-2006, 03:20 PM
:D:D

yes they do, and sometimes they just gather huge amount of alphabet letters together when you look at them you assum they are real sentences but looking closely they are just letters gathered together and they do not make sense at all!
the correction is just tiring,especially that,ahem>>me, not good in math:D so every minute I call my sister,who's a math professor,and ask:quarter+half =??
I'm really stupid and lost when it comes to numbers!

ghideon
11-20-2006, 12:12 AM
ok...so this is a good idea. And do you know why? Because, at least in my limited and humble experience, it does not really matter what a chat room's title is: current events, movies, the culinary habits of working class Italian unwed mothers...no matter what the title the chats the same...eg. "what's up? I watched CSI last night. Does anyone know if Tom Cruse has a middle name?" So if a chat room is just going to be that lame then it makes sense to just go for it. Lets call a spade a spade and have a place for as much meaningless pontificating, gossiping, lust and who the hell knows.

in Germany, when you turn something like 22/33/44/55/66/77 etc it's called a "schnapps" number and you have to treat everyone to a schnapps or pint of beer. So I'm lucky nobody in here knew about this :) 23, 000 pints would be a bit on the expensive side :)

now that my exams are over, I might actually read a book for a change and talk about "meaningful" things again :)

nope Maddhy, within the EU it's not a problem at all (at least if your country is both in the EU and the "Schengen Agreement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_treaty)" )
you don't need a visa or anything. You can even go to all the other EU countries to live and work there permanently without any hassle. But it would be more difficult for people from India. I think it would be easy to enter via the UK??? But then you'd need separate visa for each country :(

Yes, its not easy in Asia.

I have heard of Schengan visa, many Indians who live long term in any European nation (ofcourse coming under EU or the agreement)...does try to get a Schenegan visa, just as you said it makes it easier for them too, to visit a different country without much problem.

I think such agreements provide good opportunities (either to go on a vacation, work, or settle permanently)

well anything I like really Ive had to write a report and the report is rubbish I cant write acadmically about somthing I am SOO enthusiastic about it comes out stilted oh well.
lets see oh yes a quote
Also that nowadays there is so many more options than the traditional library graduates of IM and ILM courses can go on to work for traditional type jobs like Academic, public, school and government libraries, but are also increasingly hired in legal firms (this is the best paid job), the arts sector, media sector, private sector the NHS, record libraries, and charities and voluntary sectors.
They can also go on to do jobs that appear to have nothing in common with Information & library management e.g. the Head deputy fire officer for Durham county is a chartered librarian, but the organising and good management skills that are taught are transferable and help in almost any sector.
but its more than that in theory this means that I can do somthing to 'actually help people' like work providing and facilitating ( thats my word for today the vital flow of information for somthing really worth while like oh I dont know hospitals or WHO or the red cross or any other amazing institution... I might even convince the un/eu to hire me

Or I can be somthing like a lectorer at uni and help 'mold the minds of generations'
starry eyed nieve enthusiasum I know but I cant help it ...

I'm at the student computer centre of the Geology department (for a Geography project) and the cleaner locked us in! she didn't even poke her head inside the room to check if somebody was there!
now I'm stuck in here with 3 other guys from the course. The windows are barred and the building is locked! great. we've phoned a professor but he's visiting his aunt and will only be back later, according to his wife. lovely.

Miss Darcy turned up

There is an ettiquet thread that I dont really understand umm virgils clumsy with soup though
B-mental is back and he reckons the first one of us to reach 8000 is going to get a messy end.
it was Pensy's birthday.
Tal's interview has YET to be posted.
oh yes virgil and Pen cried becuase they are getting old
Virgil wanted to know if any of the guys use face cream
I discovered that the UK is hit byy between 30-60 tornadoes a year.
Pen says we are his only friends
and Robin is gaga over his new girlfriend.

Umm thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

AimusSage
12-10-2006, 09:57 AM
Thanks Night, and now for the questions

Why would the first to reach 8000 get a messy end?
Why cry over getting old? That's for Virgil and Pen.
What kind of Face cream are we talking about here? anti-wrinkling cream? Or just the regular type?

Pen, I find it hard to believe we are your only friends, considering what a great guy you are!

And NIGHT! If what B-mental thinks is true, I'll stop posting soon enough. :D
