Bone Collector Yuki

Last night was pretty normal. I stayed up until between 3-4, watched a little anime but decided not to watch another episode given the time so switched everything off intending to go to bed but ended up sitting downstairs for a while. I heard mum come home with Yuki from the night walk and I thought it would be nice to open the door for her. I didn't think I'd make it in time but she stopped to talk to the dog and so I let them in. Yuki looked a little strange. She had a chop bone in her mouth. We brought her in and tried to get a grip on it. In the end I got the gardening glove (We can only find one) and tried to pry her jaws open with one hand. No luck. Then I got a grip on the bone and pulled. It snapped off easily and I dumped it on a nearby plate. This was not a chop bone after all. I went in for the rest and got it out and put it on the plate. She still had a little and ate it but we got most of it. It wasn't a chop bone but a rib bone and a section of spine. Eeeww. I tried working out what it was. Too big for a bird. But you don't normally buy meat in the spine...I don't think so. Judging by the size we guessed it was lamb. I took another look at the bone, trying to work out what it was and then I saw it. Maggots. Two big fat maggots in the hollow centre of the spine.. We threw the maggots out (after finding a smaller third one fall out onto the plate) and sealed the boned nicely in an empty plastic pasta sauce tub.
All in all it worked out well. Everything was quite fortunate.
Fortunately I wasn't doing anything and was in a reasonably cheerful mood (not to tired or grumpy) so I could answer the door.
Fortunately the bone was too big for Yuki to eat on the move.
Fortunately as soon as she found it she was in a hurry to get home (dragged mum all the way back).
Fortunately I knew where to find one of the gardening gloves.
Fortunately we kept her on the lead so she couldn't move.
Fortunately there was an empty plate next to the chair I was sitting in to get a better grasp of the bone.
Fortunately I put the bones on the plate before discovering the maggots.
Fortunately there was an empty tub in plain sight in the kitchen (with a lid)
Fortunately as far as we could see (and we checked the whole carpet for any stray maggots) there were no other maggots that might have fallen out of the bone (unless there were some in the piece Yuki ate).
Overall it was an interesting night.
Bluebiird out.
