PLANS to build 79 houses opposite the historic home of Sir Walter Scott were yesterday approved by Scottish Borders Council in the face of major objections from leading heritage organisations.
The GBP 15 million development across the River Tweed from Abbotsford House was approved in a tight casting vote in the council's planning committee.
However, objections from Historic Scotland, a statutory consultee to the proposal from M&J Ballantyne, means it will now be referred to the Scottish Executive for final decision.
