THE millionaire Edinburgh businessman Walter Scott has dismissed claims he is planning to buy the historic home of his literary namesake.
Earlier this year Dame Jean Maxwell-Scott, the last descendant of writer Sir Walter Scott still living in Britain, died and the house's future has been in doubt since then.
Dr Scott, who has bought several properties on Charlotte Square to restore them, was reported to be about to bid for Abbotsford House, Sir Walter Scott's 19th-century mansion on the banks of the River Tweed, but yesterday he told The Scotsman there was "no truth in the rumour".
