A LANDSCAPE designed and laid out by Sir Walter Scott almost two centuries ago will be destroyed if a new town is built in the Borders between Melrose and Galashiels, according to a new lobby group.

There has already been a considerable level of negative reaction following the revelation that Scottish Borders Council is considering agricultural land close to the region's main hospital at Huntlyburn for development.

The planners claim that the Borders will require up to 2,000 new homes in a so-called central hub, and that 1,300 of them could constitute a new, small town across the road from ...
