A GROUP of veteran soldiers who served in the regiment founded by Sir Walter Scott are to place a memorial in the shadow of his monument.
Former members of the Lothian and Borders Yeomanry raised more than GBP 1000 and received special permission from the council to place a bench in the shadow of the Scott Monument in Princes Street.
Arthur Symington, 91, of the regiment association, said the bench was a fitting tribute to Sir Walter, who although not a fighter, founded the regiment in 1797 and worked tirelessly on its behalf.
