IT was once the summer retreat of Sir Walter Scott, where he escaped the bustle of Edinburgh to develop his literary talents.
But now Barony House has found itself at the centre of a row over plans for a new development on its grounds.
The owners want to build a modern house on part of the five-acre site in Lasswade, Midlothian.
The proposals sparked opposition from a conservation group and local residents eager to protect the 18th-century home which lies in the Lasswade and Kevock conservation area.
