ONE of the most comprehensive biographies ever written about Sir Walter Scott is to be sold at an auction on the internet.
The limited edition Life of Sir Walter Scott, dating from 1902, contains ten volumes and is expected to fetch more than 1000 pounds when it goes under the hammer in 12 days' time.
The books were written by Sir Walter's son-in-law and friend John Gibson Lockhart (1794-1854), a novelist, satirist and biographer.
Marsha Malinowski, senior vice president of Books and Manuscripts for Sotheby's New York, said there were only 1040 copies made.
