Chapter Forty

The Black Knight, whom we last saw taking leave of Locksley and his men
(Chapter 33), rode to the Priory of St. Botolph's where Wamba and Gurth had
taken the wounded Ivanhoe. He spent the night there in conversation with his
young friend and in the morning, with Wamba for a guide, went on his way. The
two knights agreed to meet at Coningsburgh castle for Athelstane's funeral,
where the Black Knight promised he would reunite Ivanhoe with his father.
