Forest preserve looks to buy land County district hoping for 1,000 acres in Virgil Twp.(News)

Kane County Forest Preserve officials plan to negotiate with several landowners in order to purchase 1,063 acres of Virgil Township land to their open space holdings and connect the land to the Great Western Trail, they announced Tuesday.

If the deal goes through, the land would be the largest contiguous piece of property the forest preserve has purchased since voters approved two tax increases for open space acquisition in 1999 and 2005.
