Book IV

The first lines of Book IV are a brief introduction. Virgil will discuss
the heavenly gift of honey. His patron, Maecenas is in favor of the subject.
The life of bees, their battles, their labor, are on a tiny scale, but if the
poet fulfills his task well, his glory will be not so slight. Lastly, he asks
Apollo to preside over his efforts.

The first thing the bee-keeper must do is find a safe home for the hive
out of the reach of the wind. It should be located as far from where sheep and
