Meanwhile on Olympus, Jupiter becomes very upset at the continued
fighting and decides to call a council of the gods as he had commanded that
the Trojans and Rutulians should be friends. Unfortunately, like so many
councils, it accomplishes little more than giving the rival parties a chance
to quarrel in public. Venus naturally blames the war on Turnus, broadly
hinting that Jupiter's wife has had a great deal to do with it. Still, if her
grandson Ascanius is spared, she will be satisfied. Juno retorts that it isn't
