Trouble in Suburbia.

AMONG the Irish theatre offerings currently in the New York City area, there has been a one-hundred-year-old play by Oscar Wilde (The Importance of Being Earnest at the Irish Repertory Theatre) and another by J.M. Synge (the umpteenth revival of The Playboy of the Western World, this time by the Alpha & Omega company). The worthiness of such classics is beyond reproach (as is, usually, their box-office appeal), although the lack of newly-written drama could be considered worrisome.
