THIS IS A VERY ATTRACTIVE and firmly bound paperback book, friendly to the hand and eye, with a striking cover photograph of a scene on Aran, taken by Synge himself. There are also many vivid prints, by and about Synge and others, that introduce each of the eleven chapters. So much for the creative form of the book, now to turn to the substantial contents.
