In his essay "Decline of the English Murder" George Orwell lamented the eclipse of "the old domestic poisoning dramas, product of a stable society where the all-prevailing hypocrisy did at least ensure that crimes as serious as murder should have strong emotions behind them." He would have loved the story of Nancy Kissel, sentenced to death in Hong Kong for murdering her husband, who was a senior banker at Merrill Lynch.
