George Orwell was the pen name of an English author and social critic.
His real name was Eric Arthur Blair. Orwell was born in Motihari,
India. He was educated in England and then returned to India. In 1927,
Orwell moved to Europe and devoted his time to writing. His first
book, Down and Out in Paris and London (1933), is based on his experiences
in those cities. Homage to Catalonia (1938) describes fighting in
the Spanish Civil War.
Orwell was deeply interested in politics. He hated dictatorships. He was afraid that people's individual freedoms were being taken away. ...
