Before undertaking the detailed analysis of the satire of Animal Farm
it is necessary for the reader to consider the structure of the work and
the levels of meaning on which it operates. While the discussion of levels
of meaning on which a work may be read can be carried far beyond what is
reasonable, it must here be accepted almost as an axiom in geometry that
