In this section, we see Winston Smith at work in the Ministry of Truth.
His work is divided into two related kinds of activity: (1) the systematic
alteration of newspapers and magazines, under Party orders, to bring the Past
into conformity with current Party doctrine in the Present, and (2) the
outright fabrication or forgery of history, for political ends.
We see Winston, during this working day, engage in both kinds of
activity; it might be subtitled, therefore: "One day in the life of a good
