Perhaps Jerome K. Jerome penned it best in On Being in Love: "Love is like the measles; we all have to go through it." And one of the favorite opportunities for this love bug to bite comes on Valentine's Day.

A "valentine," as explained in one dictionary, is "a card or gift sent, often anonymously, as a mark of love or affection, on St. Valentine's Day. A sweetheart chosen on this day."
