Penguin Books and the Oxfordshire Library Service launched the Great Thames Read in the UK with a steam boat trip along the River Thames for invited schoolchildren to promote Jerome K Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat'.

The Great Thames read is a joint initiative between the publisher, New Book Mag, and library authorities inspired by the 'One Book, One City' idea pioneered in the US and bought to the UK by authorities in Bristol.
