A play with music; Loras College to come alive with 'James Joyce's The Dead'

It's a musical but the actors won't just burst into song.

The story, "James Joyce's The Dead," takes place in Ireland in the late 1890s. Two sisters and their niece - music teachers - are having their annual Christmas party in Dublin.

"You had to entertain yourself in those days, so the students sing, play instruments and dance," said Doug Donald, who is directing the play at Loras College. It will run Oct. 30-Nov. 2.
