The Syracuse James Joyce Club recently announced the winners in its 2004 writing competition:
Cornell University student Michael Lekich won first place (and $500) for his essay, "James Joyce and the Problem of Irish Identity"; Cornell student Adam Katz won first place ($200) for his short story, "everyone knows that roadheads make the best lovers"; and Liverpool High School student Kathleen O'Neil won first place in the high-school essay competition with "The Triumphs and Trials of Two Archetypes of Humanity."
