I CERTAINLY felt 'Far from the Madding Crowd' when I set out to explore Dorset, just like a character in Thomas Hardy's famous novel.
The thatched villages, softly rounded hills and quiet river valleys have changed remarkably little since he set his stories there.
You can still see many of the places he used, though one - his Budmouth - has changed almost beyond recognition. In real life, it was Weymouth.
