Chapter Eight
This chapter is concerned with the relationship between Margaret Schlegel
and Mrs. Wilcox, a strange friendship which is to be one of the pivotal
relationships of the book. Forster speculates that it may have been mainly
Margaret to whom Mrs. Wilcox was attracted all along, and primarily Margaret
whom she had wanted at Howards End that fateful week of the Helen-Paul fiasco.
