Galveston Island off the coast of south Texas has been celebrating the Dickens on the Strand festival for the past 21 years. The Island celebrates the author's works and the time he lived in on the first weekend of December. Since the Island's Victorian architecture had been carefully preserved, it is not difficult to transform from 20th to 19th century. As for the people, they are required to wear Victoriana if they are residents or participants; and visitors are encouraged to do the same. Several contests are held including those for best costume and photos.
