Introduction The Life Of Charles Dickens
Early Life.
Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Landport, Portsea,
England, to John and Elizabeth Dickens, and was christened Charles John
Huffham Dickens. Dickens' father was a clerk in the British Navy Pay Office
in Portsea. John Dickens was always in debt and this kept the family moving
from one lodging to another, each more squalid than the one before. Dickens
had seven sisters and brothers - one older than himself, Fanny, and six
younger, two of whom died in childhood.
