BBC issues poll for top 100 best-loved novels in Britain

LONDON, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Britons nominated their favorite works of fiction, ranging from classics to thrillers, in a British Broadcasting Corp.'s (BBC) poll issued on Saturday for top 100 books.

All four books of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series made a strong showing on the list of Britain's top 100 best-loved reads, almost as popular as five novels by Charles Dickens. The best- selling satirist, Terry Pratchett, also had five books nominated.

BBC compiled its Big Read Top 100 based on votes from 140,000 people.
