Chapter Sixteen
Dragged through narrow streets, backyards, and alleys by Sikes and
Nancy, Oliver soon found himself before the door of a boarded up and
seemingly uninhabited shop. At a signal from Nancy, the door was opened and
the terrified Oliver was dragged into a dark passageway where a light was
finally lit. Oliver found himself confronted by Charley Bates, the Artful
Dodger, and Fagin.
Soon stripped of his new clothes, the five pounds, and the packet of
books he had been carrying, Oliver found himself again ...
