Outline Of Great Expectations
Stage I:
Alone by his parents' tombstones in the churchyard, young Pip (Philip
Pirrip) is frightened by the appearance, out of the desolate marsh country, of
a convict in shackles who makes Pip promise to bring him food and a file the
next morning. Pip does so, robbing the pantry of Mrs. Joe Gargery, his
shrewish sister who has brought him up near the forge of her husband, a
blacksmith. The convict eagerly devours his food, and Pip leaves him (after
telling him that he met another convict on the marsh that morning.) Later ...
