* The Adventures of Pinocchio (1996) (G: Ominous episodes and fleeting comic vulgarity) - (ONE STAR). A textbook example of the superfluous movie. This live-action version of the Carlo Collodi fairy tale relies on a puppet figure entrusted to the Henson workshop. The results are painfully stilted. This creaky production, exiled in Czechoslovakia, features Martin Landau as Geppetto, Genevieve Bujold as the widowed sister-in-law he pines for, Udo Kier as the villainous puppet master and Bebe Neuwirth and Rob Schneider as heavily costumed, mirthless comic relief. ...
