Pinocchio, hero of the beloved Italian fairy tale created by Carlo Collodi, has been honored with a U.S. postage stamp. Issued last June, the 37-cent Pinocchio stamp is part of the "The Art of Disney" series.
Pinocchio first appeared in 1880 as a newspaper serial that Collodi turned into the children's morality fable Pinocchio: The Story of a Puppet. The character received universal recognition in 1940 with the Disney animated movie version.
Stamps honoring John Basilone and Henry Fonda will be issued later this year, bringing to 17 the number of stamps dedicated to Italian American culture ...
