In the tradition of Carlo Collodi, the 19th-century Italian author of "The Adventures of Pinocchio," Joanie Leverone writes plays.
The Alexandria resident has gone one step further, however. She's also pulling the puppet strings.
Ms. Leverone, 32, founded the Alexandria-based Glass Heart Puppet Theatre two years ago. She infuses her work with the same love as Geppetto, the quiet craftsman whose dreams of having a son began by carving a puppet out of a block of wood.
