Pinocho fue el personaje más retratado, desde que su creador Carlo Collodi lo creara en 1880 para el Giornale dei Bambini, tanto en caricaturas como en el cine de ficción.

La primera versión apareció en 1911 y fue dirigida por el italiano Giulio Antamoro. La más conocida hasta la actualidad es la animación que en 1940 realizaran los estudios Disney. A partir de estas dos son 20 los filmes que se conocen, cinco series de televisión, seis telefilmes y un videojuego.
