When I went to Sadler's Wells Theatre for the London launch of Opera Norths Autumn and Winter Seasons I hardly expected to completely change my mind about Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, which I only knew from the Walt Disney cartoon film which I saw many years ago when it first came out. In fact, I disliked it intensely.
After the launch I could not wait to find a copy of the original book and found a 1965 reprint published by Blackie, since when I must declare myself captivated. As a result I am now looking forward to Opera North's newly commissioned opera on the subject by Jonathan Dove, whose ...
